The Oldham Times, six days a week, back on board

ROUGHYEDS are delighted to confirm that the ‘new’ Oldham Times, now out six days a week, will again be Oldham RLFC sponsors and partners during the forthcoming 2021 season.

The paper, which first moved into the borough more than three years ago as a weekly, is now on sale six days a week, every morning from Monday to Saturday inclusive.

It says it is “proud” to sponsor Oldham RLFC — and the club is equally happy to have The Oldham Times back on board for 2021 and proudly carrying the paper’s title-cum-logo on the right breast of our official match-day kit and replicas, as opposed to the back of the shorts last year.

Said club chairman Chris Hamilton:

“The decision of The Oldham Times to publish daily, every day other than Sunday, is great news for both the town and the club.

“From the club’s point of view it gives us opportunities to keep the club in the public eye six days a week, getting out our message to both fans and potential new supporters.

“We’ll be working with the paper on a number of things over the next 12 months, including a weekly write-up from within the club, initially by me and concentrating on all the things we have had to do relating to training and other protocols caused by Covid as we prepare for a scheduled return to action next month.

“Once all that is out of the way, head coach Matt Diskin will take over the column, concentrating more on the playing side.

“We are very pleased to again have this partnership with The Oldham Times this year and we wish the paper well in its decision to go daily and thus buck the trend of how things are going generally in the newspaper industry.”

The season is scheduled to start with the first round of the Betfred Challenge Cup on the weekend of Sunday, March 21 — only six weeks away.

Draws for the first two rounds will be on Thursday, February 11 and will comprise 13 of the 14 Betfred Championship clubs, including Oldham but not French club Toulouse Olympique, plus three clubs from League 1, namely Barrow Raiders, Keighley Cougars and West Wales Raiders.
