Online programme a good read

It looks like a case of “blowing your own trumpet”, but we firmly believe our fans will love our new Online match programme which was produced for the first time ahead of the Barrow cup-tie.

Issue 2, relevant to Friday’s Betfred Championship opener against Swinton Lions, is available online now and we like to think it sets the scene perfectly for the Swinton game.

We take you behind the scenes at the club with articles on the hooking situation involving Gaz Owen, Matty Wilkinson and Declan Gregory; on Luke Nelmes; and on how the club came to be featured on limited-edition beer cans by Donkeystone Brewery at Greenfield.

We reproduce an article by Gary Carter, who’s the Rugby League man for The Sun . He lives locally and was commissioned to write an off-beat piece for his local paper, the Tameside Correspondent, on the day Barrow were at Bower Fold.

Throw in the thoughts of chairman Chris Hamilton. coach Matt Diskin and club captain Gareth Owen, plus ‘specials’ on Phil Joy and past player Craig Barker and you have 24 pages about your favourite club and only one of those pages given over to adverts.

There’s even two pages on our opponents and given that we played the Lions only five days ago in the Cup our regular centre-spread picture special on our last match also features the Lions.

Though we say it ourselves. it’s a good read that will appeal to all Oldham fans ahead of each home game and might even attract some opposition fans too.

The programme is now available as a discounted season-long subscription or a single issue purchase.

Season-ticket holders have been issued with a voucher code to redeem at our online store that enables free access to the programme.

Both paid subscribers and season-ticket holders may also read the current issue online upon its release after first logging into their account.

N.B.: It has come to our notice that some season-ticket holders have not yet received the code they need to access the Online Programme.

They were sent out last week and some season-ticket holders who didn’t get it have since found it in their junk or trash mailbox. If you haven’t got it, please check in there.

AS lockdown restrictions start to ease, now is the time for everyone connected with Oldham RLFC to do all they can to help with getting income from our Club Cash lottery back to where it was before the pandemic started to bite.

This is vital for the club and its finances which, as you all know, have taken a massive hit in the past 12 months.

Collectors will be returning to door-to-door visits in the next few weeks and we hope people who suspended payments will pick up where they left off as we strive and work hard to get back to where we were before the pandemic caused us to lose 50 per cent of our lottery income.

Many of our regular punters, who would normally pay a collector, have answered our calls for help by finding other ways to pay and to retain their chances of winning prizes.

To those people we are very grateful and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them once again for their loyal and continued support.

The lottery, of course, is potentially one of our biggest fund-raisers and for as little as £1 a week — more if you wish — you can help the club immensely and at the same time have chances to win £1,000, £100, £50, £25 or one of ten consolation prizes of £10.

That’s the present prize structure. There’s every chance it will be increased once we are out of lockdown, door-to-door collections start again and we get back to some sort of normality.

In the meantime you can join, or start up again, by contacting the club on 07904 898177 or by email to: enquiries@roughyeds.co.uk

For more information about the lottery, and for the “great opportunities” provided by our partnership with the National Youth and Community Development Association (NYCDA) go our Club Cash page.

There, you will find all the results and a detailed statement about getting back to normal with the help of our not-for-profit partners.

All proceeds from the partnership will continue to support the club and help us to meet the aims of our Club Cash activities, particularly in its aims and objectives to be an active stakeholder in the local community.
