Down to Earth with a bump

AFTER the euphoria of seven days ago, when we beat Halifax Panthers 16-12, it was down to earth with a bump for Oldham today when Whitehaven did a top-notch job on us to win 36-4.

It was the Cumbrians’ first away win against Roughyeds for several years and it was also our first home defeat of the season in cup and league.

Three of their six tries were the direct result of Oldham mistakes, but they also produced some good, attacking rugby in the second half to score three more, with Aussie full-back Lachlan Walmsley converting all six, the first two off the touchline.

We trailed 6-4 at half-time with the advantage of the slope to come, but two converted tries to ‘Haven in the first few minutes of the second half served to give them all the confidence they needed to complete their job.

Full report to follow.
