Martin Murphy in hospital with a chest infection

IT has come to our notice that our former long-serving full-back Martin Murphy is in the Royal Oldham Hospital, admitted a few days ago with a chest infection.

His wife Anne said:

“You know Martin. He’s a fighter. He would love visitors, but visitors are not allowed right now and he, like the rest of us, finds that tough.”

Known fondly as ‘Murph’ to generations of Oldham Rugby fans, Martin holds the club’s post-war record for the most number of appearances `— 462 between 1966 and 1982.

The best wishes of everyone at Oldham RLFC, headed by chairman Chris Hamilton and club ambassador Adrian Alexander, a former teammate of Martin’s, go to Anne and all the family for Martin’s speedy recovery and safe return to their home in Moorside.
