A special Roughyed Review to welcome Brian Mac

FANS will agree that our capture of the great Brian McDermott as coaching consultant this week was one of the biggest surprise appointments in Rugby League for a long, long time.

Big Mac, the most successful coach in Super League history, will team up with Brendan Sheridan in a bid, with ten games left, to haul us out of the Betfred Championship bottom two and to preserve our place in rugby league’s second tier.

Brian’s arrival is featured prominently in this week’s Online ‘Review’, which can be purchased for £2.50 from our on-line shop.

Chairman Chris Hamilton, who stunned the rugby league world from Salford to Sydney and Bradford to Brisbane when he pulled off this major coup, tells why and how he did it and how he felt when driving along the M62 to meet him.

Shez discusses what it will be like working with the man who had a glorious few seasons at Leeds Rhinos.

Club captain Gareth Owen, writing on behalf of the whole squad, reveals how the players reacted to Matt Diskin’s departure.

And Roger Halstead, who has been reporting and writing about the club for more than 50 years, congratulates chairman Chris on his coup and welcomes “a great leader of men” in his own inimitable style.

Throw in Q and A and pictorial features on Matthew Fletcher as a current player and local man Keith Brennan as a Roughyeds' old boy, plus David Naylor’s two-page look at our visitors; a World Cup review; a look at Liam Kirk on the day we play his former club; and updates on Matty Wilkinson’s long haul back from injury and there’s enough there to retain the interest of any Roughyeds fan in the build-up to Sunday’s big game.

It’s a snip for £2.50 – and a reminder of the day when a Monday evening club announcement caused most people in the sport to blink and look twice !
