Like old times...

IT will be like old times at Bower Fold on Sunday . . . turnstiles open, food and bar facilities available and plenty of fans inside the ground to support the players, or the ‘men’ as Brian McDermott calls them in his first set of online programme notes, in their bid to topple the full-time professionals of London Broncos.

There were nearly a thousand people at Whitehaven last week and after all the restrictions of the last 18 months it was great to see and, just as importantly, to hear !

Our fans who made the trip were “loud and proud”, as ever, and were a credit to rugby league, to our town and, most of all, to our club. ‘Haven supporters even took to social media afterwards to say what a pleasure it had been to host Oldhamers before, during and after the game.

Thanks, and well done, everybody. Nobody appreciates your support more than the players, who are relying on Oldham people to get behind them in numbers and to show opponents and their supporters that when the going gets tough, Oldhamers really do get going.

Under-16s go FREE to our Bower Fold clash with London Broncos on Sunday, with an adult or a concession who has bought a reduced-price ticket for £12 Online, so we are hoping to see many more youngsters like these from Saddleworth Rangers under-10s, who watched the Bradford Bulls game as a send-off for one of their squad whose family was emigrating to Australia a few days later.

Nobody advocates “positive energy” and a mindset to solve problems rather than create them, more than Brian Mac — and that’s a psyche he is instilling into the players as he strives to make the team more resilient in its battle for Championship survival.

There’s nothing like home support to ‘lift’ any club and with that in mind, as you already know, we have made Sunday’s game FREE for under-16s, at hugely reduced admission prices for adults and concessions who buy in advance online and at bargain prices as well for groups, clubs or other organisations.

All we ask is that fans who wish to watch Championship rugby for only £12 do so online before the facility closes at midnight on Saturday and that group or club leaders ring us on 07904 898177 to be given full details.

Finally, the message from the club is this. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. We still have EIGHT games to play and with Brian McDermott’s passion, positivity and ability to get the best out of his “men” we’ll be battling and giving it our all for every second of every minute of every game until the final hooter at Dewsbury on September 19.
