CONGRATULATIONS from all at Oldham RLFC to local man Matt Walls, a Team GB cyclist, who this morning (Thurs) won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the men’s omnium.
Aged 23, Matt now adds Olympic gold to his World Championship bronze and his European title in the same event.
Interviewed after his win, and with the Union Jack proudly draped over his shoulders, he told BBC Sport:
“My family and friends are all watching back in Shawside.
“Thank-you to all of them for their support, especially my parents.”
As fellow Oldhamers, all at Roughyeds salute you, Matt. It isn’t every day we get an Olympic champion from the town.
