OLDHAM Rugby League Club’s three deadline signings – Lloyd Roby, Brad Jinks and Fenton Rogers – are all included in Brian McDermott’s 21-man squad for Sunday’s game against Sheffield Eagles.
Play-anywhere back Roby (22), who is at Roughyeds' on loan from Widnes Vikings, played off the bench in last Sunday’s 22-22 draw at Swinton Lions, but Jinks and Rogers are in the 21 for the first time.
Jinks, who is 20, plays half-back or hooker. He has signed on trial from Waterhead, but he had previously spent four years in the Castleford Tigers youth set-up, so he is not unaware of what professional rugby league is all about.
Rogers, just 18, is also on loan. A local lad and the son of a former Oldham forward, Wes Rogers, Fenton is here from Huddersfield Giants in order to get experience of playing against men as opposed to playing in age-group rugby.
Also back in the squad is long-serving hooker and club captain Gareth Owen, who has missed the last three games with a back problem.
To make way for Owen, Jinks and Rogers, the three who stand down are injury-victim prop Liam Kirk, winger Ben Holcroft and fullback or half-back Callum Green, who has left the club because he has altered his work patterns in his full-time employment and is finding it difficult to get to training.
Kirk was concussed in the first few minutes at Swinton, not for the first time this year, and is now under a specialist.
