Roughyeds have named their 21-man squad for the trip to Widnes Vikings on Sunday.
The team will be picked from:
D Abram, J Abram, Bent, Bridge, Brierley, Charnock, Dupree, Gregory, Hartley, Hewitt, Holcroft, Ince, Jinks, Joy, Langtree, Nelmes, Owen, Reilly, Roberts, Sheriffe, Spence.
The one change from last week’s 21 sees the return of Jamie Abram in place of Shaun Pick, who’s on an injury list with Jack Spencer, Ben Heaton, Liam Kirk and James Barran.
Lewis Else returns to the Widnes 21-man squad in the only change to the 20-man squad they named for last Sunday’s game at Whitehaven where they had only 16 players; named only three subs (one of whom didn’t go on the field) and lost 64-6.
The squad named for the Oldham game is as follows:
Owens, Spedding, Tyrer, Cross, Craven, Smith, Clough, Grady, Lawton, Baker, Farnworth, Lyons, Roby, Edge, Buckley, Else, Tilleke, Brookes, Hulme, Roden, Aspey.
Of those, the five who didn’t play at Whitehaven were Steve Tyrer, Matty Smith, Shane Grady, Lewis Else and Lewis Hulme.
Of the three replacements at the Recreation Ground, Owen Buckley was not called upon, so the depleted Vikings used only 15 players in sinking to one of their heaviest defeats in recent years.
Their only try was scored by centre Lloyd Roby, who was recently on loan to Roughyeds, for whom he made two appearances against Swinton Lions and Sheffield Eagles, scoring a try in the 22-22 draw against the Lions.
The Vikings, who are only two places higher than Oldham in the Betfred Championship, have issued a statement apologising to fans for last week’s performance, in which they conceded 11 tries.
They are expected to field a much stronger team on Sunday in the hope of getting a big reaction to their walloping at Whitehaven.
