Mike Turner, who already works closely with our media department in the supply of old pictures etc for, among other things, our match-day online programme, will represent the Oldham RL Heritage Trust at a meeting to discuss ways in which the five main Rugby League organisations in Oldham, and others, can work more closely together for mutual benefit.
We are delighted to host that meeting in which Mike will demonstrate ways in which the other groups, including Roughyeds, can make life easier and more productive for those fans who are keen on all things of a club heritage nature.
A keen home-and-way fan, with his wife Mary, Mike and his fellow trustees can take comfort in the knowledge that they have assembled one of the finest collections of club memorabilia in world rugby.
John Roddy, the Roughyeds' vice-chairman, knows he will be blown away in the next few weeks when he visits Gallery Oldham to see what the Trust has to show in just one cabinet, let alone a full display.
“I had a really interesting conversation with Mike Turner, to understand not only the hard work of Heritage members in maintaining the history of the club, but also in how they take very good care of club memorabilia and documentation.
“By doing this, the Trust’s aim is to maintain the level of care for and love of their terrific collection for the benefit of future generations. They also try to recruit younger members to become involved.
“I look forward to visiting Gallery Oldham during the next few weeks to see some of the Roughyeds' exhibits there on display.”
There is clearly much going on between the various rugby league groups, and others, in Oldham. We’ll keep you updated whenever there is something to say.
