JUST to update everyone, we currently have 21 players under contract for our 2022 Betfred League One campaign, comprising of nine backs and 12 forwards.
The backs include half-backs and the forwards include young players who cite hooker or half-back as their best and/or favourite spots in the team.
The age of each player is given in brackets to give some idea of the ratio of youth to experience.
BACKS: Joe Hartley (23), Ben Holcroft (20), Tommy Brierley (25), Dave Hewitt (26), Will Cooke (24), Martyn Ridyard (35), Calvin Wellington (25), Owen Restall (26), Kian Morgan (21).
Of the three youngest backs, centre Hartley and winger Holcroft were with us in the Championship last season and will naturally feel much more confident and self-assured than they did this time last year.
FORWARDS: Brad Jinks (20), Luke Nelmes (28), Callum Cameron (20), Jack Coventry (27), Tom Grierson (18), David Mills (18), Jason Muranka (32), Jordan Andrade (29), Sean Slater (20), Ryan Wright (30), Dom Newton (28), Tom Spencer (30).
Youngsters Jinks, Cameron, Grierson, Mills and Slater have all come through Super League’s scholarship and academy systems, Jinks with Castleford, Cameron with Castleford and Huddersfield, Grierson and Slater with Huddersfield and Mills with Warrington Wolves.
Before that, Jinks and Cameron were at Waterhead, Grierson and Oldham-born Slater were in the amateur game in Huddersfield and Mills was first at Littleborough ARLFC and then at Oldham St Anne’s.
