WE are pleased to confirm that Roughyeds vice-chairman John Roddy and Players’ Association secretary Joe Warburton are to meet up soon to discuss how Oldham RLFC and the Players’ Association can work together for mutual benefit.
The various Rugby League bodies in Oldham, i.e. Oldham RLFC, the Players’ Association, the Oldham Amateur League, Rugby Oldham (Supporters’ Trust) and the Oldham RL Heritage Trust, all of whom were represented at the recent Oldham RLFC Fans’ Forum, are attempting to foster closer links and have agreed to hold round-the-table talks on a date still to be fixed.
An entry in the minutes of the next monthly meeting of the Players’ Assn indicated that the preliminary talks between the Roughyeds’ Roddy and Warburton of the Players’ Association had still to take place.
The Players’ Association’s next monthly meeting is on Monday, December 6 at Springhead Liberal Club (7.45) and all ex-Oldham players, members or not, will be welcomed.
Before then, however, they have a Social Night at Springhead Libs on Friday, December 3, starting at 7.30pm. Lea Roberts will provide the comedy and Bing Findlater will be DJ and music maker.
The ticket price of £10 includes potato pie supper and it’s billed as a great night of mixed company when the players of yesteryear, and others, can meet and greet old pals and recount those length-of-the-field tries which will forever live in the memory !
You can buy tickets — a snip at £10 — from behind the bar at Springhead Libs; from Joe Warburton on 07882848340; or from John Watkins — once the well-known ‘sponge’ man at Watersheddings — on 07974612038.
It should be a great night. See you there !
