THE RFL has, for the first time, been able to show extended highlights of England’s 20-16 win at Wembley against Australia in 1995.
The video was posted at 7pm last night — Australia Day, no less — on Our League, the RFL website, RFL YouTube and RFL Facebook.
Coached by Phil Larder — one of our own — England beat the Aussies with tries by Andy Farrell, Chris Joynt, Jason Robinson and Paul Newlove.
Given that centre Larder, the man in charge, was Oldham born and bred and enjoyed a fabulous 12 years at Watersheddings, scoring 111 tries and kicking 475 goals, and that Joynt signed for Roughyeds as a kid before embarking on a sensational career with St Helens, we can claim to have played a significant part in that memorable day at Wembley.
There will be more England content from the RFL as the sport moves closer to the next World Cup later this year.
