Vera dies at 90 — a sad loss for the club

IT is with deep sorrow and regret that we bring you news of the death, at 90, of one of our longest-serving and most loyal fans.

Vera Hough, sister of the late Jack Roscoe, a former Roughyeds time-keeper and well-known personality on the Oldham Rugby circuit, had local rugby league running through her veins.

She was a keen home-and-away Oldham fan all her life – and a season-ticket holder for most of it.

In more recent years she was a regular on official club supporters trips to long away games that involved an overnight stay and also on Oldham RLFC holiday trips abroad.

“Vera rarely missed a trip, such was her desire to do all she could to support the club, and I got to know her well,” said club chairman Chris Hamilton.

“She was a great fan, great fun to be with and she always spoke her mind. That was one of her main traits. She was a character all right and she will be sadly missed.”

Funeral arrangements will be confirmed later.

The sincere condolences of everyone at the club, including her many close friends, are extended to Vera and her loved ones.
