JAMIE Pye, our 19-year-old prop-forward giant, will play for Salford reserves against Wakefield Trinity this weekend on a dual-registration agreement which will benefit both Roughyeds and the Red Devils.
“It will give Jamie game time and that will be good for him, good for Salford and good for us,”
said Roughyeds’ coach Stu Littler.
Pye will play for Salford reserves this Saturday, just eight days before our opening league game against Keighley Cougars at the Vestacare Stadium (3pm) on Sunday, March 27.
Added Stuart:
“Both Chris (our club chairman Chris Hamilton) and I have good friends at Salford and to enter this sort of arrangement seemed a natural fit.
“We have a very good relationship with Salford and it’s good to have an arrangement with them in which any of our players can help them out on dual reg in their reserves if they are in need of game time on a weekend when we can’t provide it.”
Jamie, whose dad played at Oldham, stands 6ft5in and he signed for Roughyeds last December after three years at St Helens, his hometown club, followed by a brief courtship with Braford Bulls.
In 2020, when he was ripping Academy opponents to shreds for Saints, he was named for the aborted England youth tour to Australia, alongside players who have since gone on to establish themselves as Super League players, such as his former Saints teammate Lewis Dodd and Ben McNamara at Hull FC.
A year earlier Jamie was part of the Saints’ Academy squad that reached the Grand Final.
On signing for Roughyeds four months ago, the youngster said:
“I enjoyed my time at Saints, the club I’ve supported as a boy, but the time has arrived to move on and to play against men in a different environment.
“I’d like to get into the Oldham side on a regular basis, but there will be lots of competition for places and we’ll all have a lot to do to get hold of a jersey.”
