The Roughyeds

Game Day at the Vestacare Stadium

GAME DAY . . . and Stu Littler’s boys will be determined to make it two home wins in a row when they meet new club Cornwall RLFC at the Vestacare Stadium this afternoon, kick-off 3pm.

Turnstiles will again open at 1pm in time for the Waterhead v Leigh Miners Rangers under-8s curtain raiser, in which our captain Martyn Ridyard’s boy will play for the Leigh lads.

As in our other home games so far this season, the boys and girls of the curtain-raiser (both teams) will act as flag bearers in the pre-match activities.

All four of our teenage loanees, namely Tom Forber (hooker), Logan Astley (half-back), Dane Windrow (second-row) and Connor Carr (Huddersfield Giants) are in line to play, having been named in our 21-man squad.

OLDHAM (from): Andrade, Astley, Cameron, Carr, Cooke, Copland, Coventry, Ferry, Forber, Hewitt, Holcroft, Jinks, Morgan, Nelmes, Newton, Restall, Ridyard, Spencer, Thornton, Whittel, Windrow.

Cornwall, who signed their first player only five months ago, bring a squad coached by Neil Kelly, which contains two on-loan players from Wigan, three dual-reg lads from Bradford Bulls, a mix of other players from the North and local Cornish lads, all held together by Irish international forward Anthony Mullally, who has seen service with Widnes Vikings, Bradford Bulls, Huddersfield Giants and Wakefield Trinity.

Of particular interest to rugby league fans in this area will be the appearance of former Saddleworth Rangers and Oldham winger Harry Aaronson in the Cornish side.

CORNWALL (from): Aaronson, Arundel, Bolger, Brannan, Chard, Gilder, Hartshorne, Johns, Jones, Kay, Lloyd, Mullally, Myers, Nichol, Purcell, Prisk, Ray, Symons, Thomson, Tupton, Whitton.

They lost 52-16 at Doncaster last time out where one of the Wigan boys, prop Toby Brannan, was named as Cornwall’s outstanding player.
