OLDHAM Rugby League Club is delighted to announce that the loan deals of highly-rated Wigan Warriors teenagers Logan Astley and Tom Forber have been extended.
Half-back Astley and hooker Forber, both aged 18, will now be available for selection when Roughyeds play new club Cornwall RLFC for the first time in a history-making game at the Vestacare Stadium on Sunday, (3pm kick-off).
Said club chairman Chris Hamilton:
“We are really pleased about this. It’s been a big step-up for Logan and Tom, but they’ve displayed their pedigree and their quality and we are looking forward to having them with us for a bit longer.”
They were both in the starting line-up against West Wales Raiders in the last home game when both gave eye-catching performances, Astley scoring two tries.
At Rochdale in the next game, Forber kept his starting role and Astley, who was on the bench, made way for the return of David Hewitt, after injury, at half-back.
Hewitt, whose cleverly delayed and concealed short pass sent in Owen Restall for the second of the full-back’s three tries, suffered a recurrence of his hip injury in the second half, but he trained normally on Tuesday and will be assessed again before weekend.
The loan extensions of Astley and Forber are a huge positive and there’s more good news for Roughyeds supporters with Brad Jinks getting the all-clear to resume training after a groin problem which caused him to miss the last two games.
With all this, plus the possibility of Jordan Andrade being available for selection again after he missed the derby-game while on his honeymoon, the dressing room is in upbeat mood ahead of Sunday’s return home to the Vestacare Stadium.
