One day to go to our next home game

ONE day to go – and Stu Littler has named his 21-man squad for Sunday’s league game with West Wales Raiders at the Vestacare Stadium (3pm kick-off).

Our THREE new signings are all included, namely teenaged Wigan Warriors duo Logan Astley (half-back) and Tom Forber (hooker) and Dewsbury Celtic’s 23-year-old forward Billy Yarrow (hooker).

Astley and Forber, both 18, come highly recommended by Wigan, each on an initial two-week loan.

Yarrow is here, initially on trial but with big wraps from those who know him best.

Squad: Andrade, Arnold, Astley, Cameron, Cooke, Copland, Coventry, Ferry, Forber, Hartley, Hewitt, Holcroft, Morgan, Nelmes, Newton, Restall, Ridyard, Spencer, Thornton, Whittel, Yarrow.

In terms of assisting with the financial implications of recruitment generally, donations from ‘Club Strengthener’ can’t be over-valued.

Created by the late Nigel Marland many years ago, ‘Club Strengthener’ is now run and administered by John McAndrew and his wife Lynda.

It’s a scheme set up exclusively and specifically to help with signing players. Funds are donated by supporters, placed in a special account and then used by the club on signings as and when the need arises.

Anyone wishing to talk to John, either about ‘Club Strengthener’ or our Club Cash lottery, which he also administers, can do so on 07980 129541 or (0161) 633 1791.

Back to Sunday’s game and it will be Martyn Ridyard’s Vestacare homecoming, armed with 1,000 career goals, which he reached in the 22–22 draw at Hunslet last week. Judging by the way he is kicking, there are a lot more ‘Riddy’ goals still to come.

Good Friday Derby

A REMINDER – not that one is needed – that our next game after tomorrow (Sunday) is the eagerly-awaited derby clash with Rochdale Hornets on Good Friday at the Crown Oil Arena (3pm).

Next Friday provides local RL fans with a full day of live action, given that Saddleworth Rangers will take on Waterhead Warriors in the Standard Cup Final at Manor Park earlier in the day.

If there is sufficient demand, our Supporters Group, YEDS, is planning to run a bus from Manor Park to the Rochdale ground.
