STU Littler’s initial 21-man squad for tomorrow’s (Sunday’s) Betfred League One game against Cornwall at the Vestacare Stadium (3pm kick-off) includes all four of the Roughyeds’ teenage loan players — Tom Forber (hooker), Logan Astley (half-back), both from Wigan Warriors, Dane Windrow (back -row), from Wakefield Trinity and Connor Carr (centre), from Huddersfield Giants.
Powerhouse prop Jordan Andrade, whom Leo Casey named man of the match in our opening game against Keighley Cougars, returns to the squad after his honeymoon, while local boy Brad Jinks is also back in the 21 after missing the last two games with a groin injury.
As Forber and Astley played at Rochdale last time out, the inclusion of Windrow and Carr and the return of Andrade and Jinks means there are four changes with Joe Hartley, David Mills, Ryan Wright and Billy Yarrow sitting this one out.
Squad: Andrade, Astley, Cameron, Carr, Cooke, Copland, Coventry, Ferry, Forber, Hewitt, Holcroft, Jinks, Morgan, Nelmes, Newton, Restall, Ridyard, Spencer, Thornton, Whittel, Windrow.
Neil Kelly names a Cornwall squad comprising mainly players from the North and including former Oldham winger Harry Aaronson, a native of Saddleworth, and a well-known former Super League forward in Anthony Mullally, Widnes-born and an Irish international who played at Leeds Rhinos, Huddersfield Giants, Wakefield Trinity, Bradford Bulls and Toronto Wolfpack.
Aged 30, and Cornwall’s first-ever signing last December, the prop was in the Leeds side that beat Castleford Tigers in the 2017 Grand Final at Old Trafford.
Also in Kelly’s squad are two loan lads from Wigan, Adam Jones and Tony Brannan and a trio of dual-reg players from Bradford Bulls, Jay Myers, Coby Nichol and Sam Arundel.
There are a few Cornwall boys too, among them centre Kyle Johns, winger Henry Symons, hooker Sam Gilder and utility back Chris Chard,
Interestingly, their nationality is given on the club website as ‘Cornish’.
