LITTLE more than a week ago, we offered the congratulations of Oldham RLFC to three local lads — Harrison Dodd, Marcus Geener and Reece Smethurst — who have been included in a 20-strong under-16s squad to represent England Community Lions in three internationals involving Wales and Scotland.
Now comes news that another three locals — Callum Murphy and Scott Parnaby of Waterhead and Dylan Turner of Oldham St Anne’s — are in the 21-strong under-19s England squad to compete in European Championships in Italy in September.
Fifteen clubs are represented in the squad which includes six young players, among them Parnaby and Turner, who played for the Lions’ under-17s in Wales last year.
Head coach Allan Coleman said selection had been a tough process.
The congratulations of all at Roughyeds go to Callum, Scott and Dylan and also to their clubs and club coaches who have obviously played a huge part in their development.
