Roary's Pride is back

ROARY’S PRIDE is back! Our hugely-popular Supporters’ Club for youngsters enjoyed a great year pre-lockdown, but then fell victim to Covid.

We can now confirm that Roary’s Pride will be re-launched on Sunday at the Oldham v Swinton Lions game, which kicks off at the Vestacare Stadium at 3pm.

All under-16s go in FREE and those youngsters who wish to join Roary’s Pride will find Roary, his helpers and a stand just inside the ground where they will help prospective members and their parents/guardians/other adults to do the necessary paper work.

The stand will be set up from about 1pm, when the turnstiles open, so there will be plenty of time before kick-off to join Roary’s Pride and also to look at (and have pictures taken with) the three World Cups which the RFL are bringing to the game.

These famous trophies, covering the Men’s, Women’s and Wheelchair World Cups, will be up for competition this autumn. They are currently being taken round on a tour of clubs and this Sunday it’s our turn to welcome them to Oldham.

They will be on show just inside the ground from 1.15 to kick-off so make sure you or an adult with you has a camera or mobile phone with them so they can take a pic. It will probably be your only chance.

Starting at 1.15pm there’s also a curtain-raiser featuring Limehurst Lions and Saddleworth under-10s so that’s well worth a visit too.

But back to Roary’s Pride. Membership costs £10, but there are all sorts of benefits for that, as those who joined last time will tell you.

It includes a gift pack, the contents of which are alone worth more than £10, regular and interesting get-togethers (last time there were visits by the Police and Fire Services), games with the players and, of course, regular connections with Roary, whom we believe is the best mascot in thde whole of the Rugby League.

Roary’s Pride will be supported by Rugby Oldham, the Supporters Trust, and anyone who joins Pride will be automatically registered as a member of Rugby Oldham, unless you want to opt out, which is also available to you.

Dave Murgatroyd, our official club photographer, is chief organiser of Roary’s Pride, and the man to see if anyone has any queries. He will be among the welcoming party just inside the ground on Sunday.

Said Dave:

“We chose the name wisely, not just because Roary the Lion King is at its head and a group of lions is called a pride, but because we are PROUD of our team, our club, our town and our families and friends.

“We are PROUD to call ourselves Roughyeds and I personally am PROUD to be given this opportunity to make self-pride a key ingredient of what makes Roary’s Pride tick.”

As for the man of the moment, Roary is thrilled and delighted to know that Pride is back. He doesn’t say much (actions really do speak louder than words), but he did tell us:

“I hope as many young fans as possible join my pride. Nothing would make me prouder than to be told that most young Roughyeds have come on board with me.”

So there you have it boys and girls. Your loveable mascot needs YOU. We know you won’t let him down.
