Girl power and pride in their team!

YOU won’t convince these young lasses, who support us from afar — Cannock in Staffordshire to be precise — that we’ll have a tough job on our hands when London Skolars come to the Vestacare Stadium on Sunday, kick-off 3pm.

You may remember that, back in April, proud Dad Ian Price and Elise (pictured on the right of the picture) drove from Cannock to Oldham to watch their first live rugby league game when we beat West Wales Raiders 100-4.

Ian later sent us a very complimentary email about the welcome he and Elise had received.

Well, we have kept in touch and we have now received from Ian this picture of Elise and his younger daughter Rosa (left) showing off their Roughyeds colours and their Roary’s Pride hats during a summer holiday away.

Ian and Elise hope to be here again either this Sunday for the London Skolars game or, failing that, on Sunday, September 4 when we play Hunslet in our final game of the regular season.

Wrote Ian:

“The girls will be proud to be members of Roary’s Pride. Their Roughyeds water bottles are used regularly and always come away with us when we go camping on holiday.

“We hope to see you again either this Sunday or on September 4.”

This is the original story, and Ian’s lovely email, which we used here on the website in April:

FLASHBACK to April . . . Letter from a new fan

What a fantastic day we had today. I know people are quick to complain when things don’t go well but I have to do the opposite here.

The welcome my step daughter Elise and I received today was fantastic from the moment we walked in about half one till the moment we left just about quarter past five.

The male member of staff whose name I sadly didn’t get was exceptional. He greeted her as we made our way pitchside, chatted to her about it being her first game and said he would send Roary to see her, which he promptly did. She got a signed photo of Roary who posed with her and came back to give her a chocolate egg later too.

During our conversation we spoke about my daughter Rosa (her half sister) who will join us at a game in a year or two (she is currently two and a half and would be more trouble than all 34 players combined!). At the mention of this, another signed Roary photo and another chocolate egg were provided along with two wristbands.

Elise felt like royalty and cheered every try. She doesn’t understand all the rules but was chuffed to bits with her front row seat and is adamant she will be back this season, and she got a pretty good grasp of what was going on well before the end.

We live nearly two hours away in Cannock, Staffs so coming regularly is difficult but you should be so proud of the welcome your club provides.

I haven’t even mentioned the lady behind the bar who served her a couple of lemonades, popped them in a glass with a straw at half time and post match and took the time on both occasions to ask how her day had been and if she was enjoying herself.

Elise wore her hat and scarf with pride today and by quarter past five, left the ground referring to Oldham as “we”.

We will be back this summer. We will be back in future seasons as a family of four once the youngest is a bit older because the environment that you, your staff and players provide is one I am more than happy to bring the girls to.

Well done and thank you again and no, we know you won’t be able to provide us with 100 points every time we come.

Yours sincerely

Ian and Elise

(And Rosa, for her gifts, too)
