JOHN Hammond’s funeral will be at Oldham Crematorium, Hollinwood at 1.30pm on Friday, September 30.
A celebration of John’ life will take place afterwards at the Coach and Horses public house in Waterhead.
A clever, intelligent scrum-half John played for Rochdale Hornets and then Oldham, his home-town club, for whom he lifted the Lancashire Shield, as captain, after a Final win against Salford in 1976.
They reached the final again a year later, but this time they were beaten at the last hurdle by Wigan.
John, who went into coaching at amateur level when his playing days were over, died on September 12, aged 77.
He recently attended the Oldham v Rochdale game at the Vestacare Stadium where, at half-time, he received his Oldham Heritage certificate (784) from Mike Elliott, chairman of the Players’ Association.
