Congrats to 'Our Kev'

On behalf of Oldhamers everywhere, everyone at Roughyeds — Kevin Sinfield’s home-town pro rugby league club — offers congratulations to ‘our Kev’ for his magnificent fund-raising marathons for Rob Burrow and MND generally.

His latest effort raised an estimated £1.4m when it ended with the arrival of Kevin and his support team at Old Trafford on Saturday during half-time at the Australia v Samoa Men’s World Cup final.

Inspired by his former Leeds Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow and other top sportsmen who are living with the disease, Kevin (42) completed his seven back-to-back ultra marathons and then told a full Old Trafford:

”The full Rugby League community has got behind the MND community. I can’t thank you enough."

Nor can we thank Kevin enough. No words can fully describe his incredible achievements, but well done sir — a truly remarkable man who has done amazing stuff for Rob, MND and also for Rugby League.

Congrats also to England’s Wheelchair Squad on their inspirational World Cup Final win against France and to the proud and majestic Australians on their World Cup double in lifting both the Men’s and Women’s world crowns.

To see the Aussie girls forming a guard of honour for our Wheelchair blokes was a moment indeed, as was Kevin’s interview, when you felt proud to be a Rugby League fan. OUR World Cup has finished for three more years but, my, how it delivered!

Attention now turns to the soccer boys. Let’s all get behind them now.
