Physio Lee joins us as support staff continues to grow

ROUGHYEDS are pleased to announce the appointment of physiotherapist Lee Cholmondeley, following that of strength and conditioning expert Daniel Bedford, as the squad’s support staff continues to grow.

Lee, a chartered physiotherapist for 15 years, has worked in the NHS, privately and with several sports teams.

He’s no stranger to Roughyeds, having filled in on a couple of occasions last season, and he’s delighted to be with us now on a regular basis.

He said:

“After sitting down with the chairman, who told me of the club’s ambitions this season, it excited me to join the backroom staff.

“I’m really happy to be working with the lads, those I know from last season as well as the new signings

“There’s a really good buzz and I’m sure we can do good things this year.”

Lee has spent time with Bradford Bulls, Huddersfield Giants’ women and Blackpool FC, including the year they spent in the Premier League.

He’s a massive rugby league fan and the main reason he chose to become a physio was to stay in the sport he has loved since he was a young lad.

He continued:

“I played junior level at Wigan St pats with the likes of Kris Radlinski but injuries meant I never got a pro contract.

“I’ve always played rugby league and played my full adult career with Blackpool Stanley. It’s why I chose this career path - to stay in the sport and as close to the pitch as possible.

“I’m massively passionate about rugby league and being involved in it,”

The name Cholmondeley (pronounced chumley) may ring a bell to some Yeds fans. His cousin, David, played for Halifax, Keighley and Sheffield Eagles in the 1980s.

Head coach Stuart Littler said:

“He’s a good, strong character and good with the boys.

“I know the lads are going to get the technical details and the support they need with injuries.

“He’s going to work closely on rehab with our boys, including Tommy Brierley who we’ve got coming back from a significant injury.

“We’ve got a support system in there and he’s going to work closely with the boys in helping to get them ready for the season.”
