Yarrow excited to play on in 2023

Billy Yarrow in action for Oldham against Hunslet

ROUGHYEDS can announce our hooker Billy Yarrow has signed a new one-year deal and will play on in 2023.

Yarrow, who was signed initially on trial from Dewsbury Celtic after injuries to several players, impressed in his first year and made an impact at the back end of the year.

He made 12 appearances, after signing in April, and his three tries all came in games he started on the bench.

On signing again for us, Billy, who is soon to be 24, said:

“The ambition is for the club to be in the Championship and that’s certainly something that I want to be a part of on my journey.

“I didn’t expect to play as many games as I did last season and I’m very grateful for those opportunities.

“I thought I did very well and grabbed those opportunities, whether they were starting or from off the bench.

“For this year, It’s about getting as many games as possible under my belt and learning more and more from the likes of Riddy and the more experienced players.

“Everyone is going to have to up their game. I believe the squad has only got stronger with the new signings and that will also make me a better player, because we’re all going to be pushing for places this year.”

Head coach Stuart Littler said:

“Billy came to us in our hour of need when we were low on numbers at hooker and came in and did a good job.

“He dipped in and out of Huddersfield as a kid and went back to amateur.

“That shows there’s resilience there and a drive to be successful, because some lads give up at the first hurdle but he’s overcome that.”
