TOMMY Brierley is set to play his first game since his horrific injury in 2022 as he features for Huddersfield Reserves on dual-registration this weekend.
Winger Brierley is closing on his return to the Roughyeds squad after he suffered a fractured leg and ruptured ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) over 12 months ago against Keighley.
He has been in full contact training for several weeks now and is now ready to be back playing.
He needs a game, and we’re using this reserve fixture as a stepping stone to his return to first team action,”
said head coach Stuart Littler.
“He’s nearing full fitness now having been in full contact training for a good while, and we thank Huddersfield and Tom Tsang for supporting us with this.
“We’ve been smart in having a staged approach and, so far, Tommy’s got through every stage and ticked every box.
“He’s where he should be at this moment in time and we’re looking forward to getting him back on a rugby pitch.”
The game, against Newcastle Thunder at Huddersfield YMCA RUFC, will kick off at 12:00pm tomorrow (Saturday April 15).
Should all go well, Tommy will be back in contention for the home game against Cornwall on May 7.
A product of the Leeds Rhinos academy, he signed ahead of the 2021 Championship season from Dewsbury – having also played for York, Hunslet and Coventry – and in his time at the club has scored five tries in 22 appearances.
Roughyeds travel to Doncaster this Sunday, April 16, as they look to extend their unbeaten record to four wins.

Tickets, for the 2nd v 3rd clash at the Eco Power Stadium, are priced at £13 for adults and £1 for juniors (17 and under) with matchday adult prices rising to £15.
