Could YOU be the new Roary

Volunteer Vacancy

Have you got what it takes to become the new Roary the Roughyed ?

Oldham RLFC is looking for a new volunteer to don the mantle of our very own mascot, Roary the Roughyed.

Oldham RLFC is advertising an exciting new opportunity for fans to register their interest and step into the mantle of our much-loved children’s mascot Roary the Roughyed. This is a huge opportunity for a keen fan (gender immaterial) who will ideally be aged 18 or over to meet RFL guidelines.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about the club, but also about growing the awareness of Rugby League in the town, boosting community engagement, and ensuring the future of Rugby league in Oldham, through the younger generations.

Current volunteer Nathan Murgatroyd is particularly excited about the opportunities this position will create.

“I’ve been working very closely with Roary over the last 12 years and while we’ve been able to accomplish a lot I am proud of, we have a massive untapped potential in community engagement and social media presence. This new position will enable us to increase Roary’s presence in key areas around the town.

“I think it’s really important, now more than ever, to focus on the club’s social media presence, especially with the IMG grading on the horizon and I’m hoping to work with the new candidate to place Roary at the forefront of everything the club produces.

“Speaking from experience, the role of mascot is extremely rewarding and quite honestly, life changing. I strongly encourage anyone reading this, who might be apprehensive about applying, to jump in feet first. Believe me, you’ll never look back.”

David Murgatroyd, founder of Roary’s Pride Junior Members Club is fully behind the new opportunity.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for a lifelong Oldham fan to get involved with something right at the heart of Oldham RLFC and become an integral part of the matchday staff. If you are an Oldham fan like myself there is no greater joy than in getting involved and giving something back to the team, the club and the town we love.

“Nathan and I have lots of plans and Nathan, Roary and myself will be working together to highlight the kids club (Roary’s Pride) and make it bigger and better than in previous years.”

The successful candidate will be working closely under David and Nathan Murgatroyd on match days and other selected days during the week.
