Sheila wins £500 Lottery Prize

WELL-KNOWN Roughyeds’ fan Sheila Somerville has won a £500 Club Cash jackpot prize in the Oldham RLFC weekly lottery.

Known by thousands of Oldham Rugby supporters, club officials, players and backroom staff, Sheila and her husband Grant were, for many years, tireless voluntary workers for the club, performing plenty of tasks, especially on match days.

To this day, this husband-and-wife team, both of them life-long fans, rarely miss a game home and away.

Said Roger Halstead, club president and volunteer media manager:

“Everyone who watches Roughyeds knows Sheila and Grant, if only for all their hard work for the club over such a length of time. If anyone at the club deserves to win a prize like this it’s Sheila. She and Grant have supported Oldham all their lives and for much of those lives they gave up their time and energy to do things for the club.

“I’ve known them well for the best part of half a century – and so do most of the fans. It’s typical of her to agree to publicity because she is aware that it is to the benefit of the club.”

Sheila has been in the club’s present lottery since its inception. She said:

“My late parents won a jackpot prize in 1998, back in the days when it was the Saturday Yankee, and now it’s turned full circle. It goes without saying that Grant and I wish the club well going forward and hope that the Club Cash lottery goes from strength to strength with lots of local winners.”

Sheila and Grant, as a couple, won the ‘Clubman of the year’ award in 2010 and are pictured here with the then head coach Tony Benson.

Our Club Cash lottery has guaranteed weekly prizes of £1,000, £100, £50 (two), £25 (two), ten consolation prizes each of £10, plus the £500 weekly rollover jackpot which. If it isn’t won earlier, rises by £500 a week to a maximum of £10,000. At £1 a week, how’s that for value for money ? We can offer prizes like that because, with several other clubs, we are partners with the National Youth and Community Development Association (NYCDA) and you can read all about it on our club cash page.

Suffice to say here that it raises significant and crucially important income for the club and, as such, the more members we have the more income we have from this source – and the more income we have the better position we are in to take this great club forward.
