HEAD coach Stuart Littler was happy with Roughyeds’ third straight home victory – even if it was a “little patchy”.
Littler’s men racked up a 36 point lead after an hour, but had chances to make the victory more comfortable.
The game was stop-start due to off the ball incidents, as well as injuries, and Roughyeds struggled to play at their free-flowing best.
“You could tell we’d not played for a couple of weeks – we got involved in some clunky stuff and got a bit frustrated with things,” said Littler who spoke after the 36-16 victory over Cornwall.
“We probably opened the door and invited them back into the game, but full credit to them, they kept going for 80 minutes.
“That’ll only put us in good stead for the battles ahead, though. We’ve got a good run of games coming up now and it’s something we’re ready to embrace.”
While the overall performance could have been better, individual efforts from hooker Matty Wilkinson, as well as former Samoan international Pat Ah Van, pleased Littler.
Ah Van scored a hat-trick as he surpassed his 150th career try total, and even kicked a couple of goals due to the absence of captain Martyn Ridyard.
“Matty was outstanding, he played for the whole 80 minutes and was lively all day,” said the Roughyeds boss.
“Massive credit, and congratulations, also goes to Patrick on scoring his 150th try as well as a hat-trick – and he kicked a couple of goals, as well, to keep Ridy on his toes.”
Littler is keen to iron out Roughyeds’ mistakes as the focus now switches to the away trip to Workington Town this Sunday.
“We have to be better, there were a couple of errors we made against Cornwall that we did against Doncaster,” he added.
“We need to fix that up real quick and get it right because whenever you play Workington it’s a battle.”
