Roary, our loveable club mascot, had a date at the Civic Centre where he met the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Zahid Chauhan OBE, who in turn was more than happy to stand by Roary, proudly wearing the Roughyeds’ club scarf, while our rugby-mad lion signed the borough’s visitors’ book.
It isn’t every day a lion is on the prowl in our town’s home-from-home centre of operations, but Roary and the Mayor got along so well he invited Roary and his pride back again, but not before he had first shown Roary the much revered Standard Cup, owned by the Oldham Amateur League
Roary and the Roughyeds’ fan who looks after him, David Murgatroyd, spoke to the Mayor for a while and told him of their vision to get the children of Oldham proud of the town again and very much part of its future.
