ROUGHYEDS have handed Nick Rawsthorne a two-year contract extension after several impressive displays since his arrival in June.
The winger joined Oldham from his hometown club Halifax and soon became one of the club’s main attacking threats.
Rawsthorne arrived at the club with a reputation of being a relentless try-scorer, having scored 51 tries in 82 appearances.
He crossed the line ten times in as many games for Roughyeds in 2023, re-discovering the form which saw him score 27 tries in 34 games for Toronto Wolfpack.
He was instrumental in Roughyeds’ 24-20 victory over Rochdale where he scored a hat-trick and he was a stand-out performer in the club’s first game back at Boundary Park after he bagged two tries to help Oldham defeat Workington 40-24.
As well as having a knack for try-scoring, he showed his metre-making abilities when he produced strong ball carries for the club across the recent League One campaign.
For Rawsthorne, It was an easy decision to sign again with the club that helped him rediscover his love for the sport.
“When Mike (Ford) came to me and said he wanted me to sign on for another two years it was a no brainer,” he said.
“There wasn’t really a decision to make, since signing I’ve just really enjoyed my rugby and it has made me play better as a result.
“There is going to be a real air of professionalism about the club next year backed up by us playing at the fantastic Boundary Park, which also suits our playing style.
“We are shaping up well for next year; it was a disappointing end to 2023 but this time we are going all out for automatic promotion.”
Rawsthorne is Oldham’s ninth player signed up for 2024 with the tenth to be revealed tomorrow.
