WE are delighted to report that membership of the Oldham RLFC Players’ Association is on the up with the addition of 1990s stars Gary Hyde, Andy Ruane and Keith Newton.
This takes total membership to 90, 63 of whom are paid-up members, reported Association secretary Joe Warburton at the last monthly meeting, which are always held at what is now known as Springhead Sports and Social Club.
Joe, treasurer John Watkins and Ray Hicks run it and there are figure heads such as Martin Murphy (president) and Mike Elliott (chairman). There is a direct link between the Association and Oldham RLFC, given that Joe and Mike Ford work in harness on the RFL’ s Pathway Scheme for the development of local youngsters.
The Association sponsored recent Oldham Amateur League youth finals at Melrose, featuring Saddleworth v Mayfield (under-16s) and Waterhead v Mayfield (under-18s).

The Association annual dinner at St Herbert’s on Broadway on Friday, November 3, featuring Brian Noble (guest speaker), Austin Knight (comedian) and Pete Emmett (compere) is a £35-a-head sell-out and little more than a month later there will be a less formal social event at Springhead on Friday, December 8 with music by Bing Findlater, potato pie supper and comedy by Gary Marshall.

Rochdale Hornets have announced the signings of two former Oldham forwards, Luke Nelmes and Deane Meadows, who were both included by Oldham two or three weeks ago on the list of players who would be leaving the club. Hornets have now signed three of our former players – Meadows, Nelmes and outside back Joe Hartley.
