LOCAL man Kieran O’Reilly, a 21-year-old steeped in Rugby League and commercial work, is the newly-appointed full-time marketing man at Oldham RLFC, unveiled by club chairman Bill Quinn at Saturday morning’s pre-season media scrum at Boundary Park
Said Bill:
“The club is going places. All the vibes are positive and exciting and young Kieran will build on that and increase our income from commercial sources. We’ve already pulled in new sponsors, including a company based in the South of England with whom I do business away from rugby.”
O’Reilly (pictured) is eagerly looking forward to promoting the club in the community and increasing its portfolio of income. Back in the day (his words), he played for Saddleworth Rangers and the Huddersfield Giants scholarship team before injury put paid to any ambitions he had to make it as a player.
He has worked for the RFL and he has lived in Ferguson Way, Watersheddings, close to the old stadium. He attended Saddleworth School where he came under the influence of another Rugby League nut on the teaching staff in Gary Melling, a qualified Rugby League referee and a well-known touch judge at pro level.
Added Kieran:
“Gary was Head of Rugby and, under his command, we became Oldham champions. Little did I know then that I would be working in the sport one day. It’s my dream job.”
