SILVERWARE is up for grabs for Oldham this weekend as they lock horns with Rochdale, in an attempt to retain the Law Cup.
It will be the 71st instalment of the Law Cup which Oldham have won on 46 occasions to Rochdale’s 21, the others having ended as a draw.
Roughyeds boss Sean Long will be putting out a strong squad as he homes in on his best 17, ahead of the season kicking off against Halifax Panthers in the 1895 Cup a week later.
“We will be putting a competitive side out against Rochdale to bring the trophy back home with us,” he said.
“It’s our first trophy on offer and we want to win as many of them as possible this year.
“We’re planning on giving everybody minutes because everyone has been training really well so far in pre-season.”
Long also provided an injury update, revealing that Jumah Sambou, Brad Gallagher, and Mackenzie Turner will all miss Sunday’s game.
Sambou, recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained prior to signing with the club, will be out for another four to six weeks.
Gallagher, in one of his first training sessions with the club, tore his labrum in his shoulder sidelining him for four months.
Mackenzie Turner is still recovering from the hamstring injury he sustained in the 46-10 victory over Keighley on Boxing Day, and Mo Agoro – who has rolled his ankle – may not be risked.
Should Oldham emerge victorious, it would be the first time since 2019 they have retained the trophy.
The Roughyeds man of the match, joining the likes of Ian Watson and Jamie Dallimore, will be presented with the Heritage Trust Trophy which has been tradition since 2004.
Ticket sales have already surpassed 1000, a figure that hasn’t been reached since 2008 at the Crown Oil Arena in the Law Cup.
Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and free for under-16s and can be bought via Rochdale ticketing site.
