Foundation going from strength to strength

HAYDN WALKER of Wigan, a full-time director of the club and a club rep with Bill Quinn on the Oldham RLFC Foundation, attended his first Players’ Assn meeting at Springhead this week and then submitted this article to the website to give everyone some idea of who and what is the Foundation and what it gets up to in its daily business.

He wrote:

The club’s Community Foundation goes from strength to strength with a number of initiatives currently underway.

The boys Lions pathway for the different age groups is about to begin with games being planned for the near future. Credit must go to Joe Warburton and his team of coaches for giving these boys the opportunity to develop their skills and wear the club shirt.

Similarly with the Women’s and Girls’ game, Beth Sutcliffe has been busy organising the pathway, instilling schools’ activity and submitting a bid to Sport England to fund a part-time Development Officer.

The project at Melrose is up and running with floodlights upgraded, showers replaced , a kitchen fitted, and an access road underway – all of which is the first phase of the Foundation’s plan to develop the facility as a community hub.

The Foundation’s 2024 Development Plan has now been submitted to the RFL.

The board of the Foundation now consists of Bill Quinn and Haydn Walker from the club, well-known former player and club ambassador Adrian Alexander, Councillor Colin McLaren and club supporter John Townsend.

John is also on the board of the Rio Ferdinand Foundation and brings to the table years of experience in this field.
