Dave Naylor, our techy guru, wins club award

IN this modern digital age, in which the world revolves around smart phones. lap tops, iPads, computers and all manner of digital devices, all clubs need a techy wizard and we are blessed with one of the best in Dave Naylor, whom Mike Ford has revealed is the club’s employee/volunteer of the month for March.

We are indeed blessed to have one of our own in such an important position for the welfare of the club – an accomplished technical operator who is Oldham born, Oldham raised and a lifelong Oldham supporter.

Said Mike:

“Dave’s contribution to our club is absolutely invaluable. The board is keen to thank him for all he does and to place on record our appreciation of all our helpers, some of whom have been volunteering their services for ages, long before we took over. Dave is in that bracket.

“Sam Doyle won this monthly award in February for all he does behind the scenes on the playing side and now it’s time to present the accolade to Dave for all he does on the admin side.”

Media manager Roger Halstead commented:

“Dave is more than worthy of this honour. He is an extremely talented media operator when so much of our work these days on the media is tied up with techy things, about which he has vast knowledge. "

You could almost say Dave Naylor was born into the role. He entered this world in the living room of a house in Wales Street, Watersheddings and spent his early years on Ripponden Road, not far from the Black Horse, where the floodlights from Watersheddings would illuminate his bedroom.

He said:

“I was a regular home and away supporter through the 80s and 90s before moving over to the other side of the hill, finally ending up in Leeds. I’m married to Lisa. We have a son Fraser and also have two daughters: Lisa and Rebecca. I would call myself a freelance web developer and system administrator.

“I’ve been managing most things techy for the Roughyeds since 2016. Also in 2016 I won the Supporters Direct Community Champion of the year award for my work with the club.

“I currently manage the club website, ticket site and online shop as well being an accredited club photographer. I’ve also assisted with the production of the printed and online club programme as well as contributing written articles.

At various times I’ve subbed as Ground Announcer, Club Timekeeper and in the 2018 season I was the club videographer. I have also managed the club’s social media accounts: Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.”

You could say the only thing he’s not done is drive the team bus!

One of his more recent projects, in March, was to build the current ticket site, design the season tickets and distribute them to fans in the opening games of the season.

Dave Naylor can turn his hand to anything – and he very often does !
