YEDS group going from strength to strength

THE following statement from our official Supporters’ Group, THE YEDS, indicates how far YEDS have progressed since their early beginnings and how our fans are captivated by the table-topping clash between Sean Long’s men and their biggest and closest rivals, Keighley Cougars, at Cougar Park on Sunday (3pm kick-off).

Our media team is indebted to Joe Warburton, secretary of the Players’ Association, for supplying this information – another example of what can be achieved when the various stake-holder organisations work in unison to keep supporters informed.

YEDS on tour in Keighley

Coaches:

As most who are reading this email already know, we have three 53-seat coaches going to Keighley on Sunday (3pm) to watch our Oldham RLFC in a top-of-the-table humdinger. We are both on 14 points, but we have a game in hand, we are top of the tree with the best ‘for’. ‘against’ and ‘differential’ figures in League One and we are the only unbeaten side in tier three. Cougars have lost one.

YEDS have gone, in a relatively short time, from struggling to fill much smaller buses to carrying an army. What a transformation !

Coach details:

Coaches 1 & 3:

  • Leaving the Fox & Pine at 11am, stopping off at the Beer Factory in Saltaire, arriving at the Beer Factory at approximately noon.
  • People can either taste the delights and samples of a variety of beers, lagers and spirits of the Beer Factory, or enjoy a couple of hours walking round the Village bars.
  • Leaving Saltaire Beer Factory at 2pm
  • Arriving at Cougar Park at approx 2.15 pm.
  • Leave Cougar Park (from Keighley Cricket Club next door) at 5.30pm.
  • Arriving back at the Fox & Pine at approx 6.45pm.

Coach 2:

  • Leaving the Fox & Pine at 1pm
  • Arriving at Cougar Park at 2.15pm.
  • Leaving Cougar Park at 5pm
  • Arriving back at the Fox & Pine approx. 6.15pm.

Our aims and achievements:

This season, we have taken a 53-seat coach (minimum) to EVERY away game (these notes were written before Sunday’s long trip to Cornwall) — and in some cases we have taken more — like to York and Barrow.

We set out to bring together fans of all ages and backgrounds and we are finally seeing it work. We we want the younger generation meeting other younger fans and forming rugby bonds and also the older, more experienced generation to be there to enjoy the day and pass on stories and memories to the next generation.

So far:

We are still learning and growing into a great supporters group. We have been slowly growing for the last two seasons and this year it has boomed.

We understand there’s been some teething issues with polo shirts, membership cards etc, but we’ve had many raffles, we give away tickets each home game, ALL members are officially a sponsor with Elijah Taylor and there’s so much more we can do and want to do.It’s all about tools and time.

Plans:

We are aiming to become the number one rugby league hub for fans in Oldham and beyond. We are planning on working with and supporting a few mental health charities with the aim of offering opportunities to become mental health first aiders in the near future.

We thank those who have been with us from the start and those who have joined us along the way.

Help us:

We want to keep growing and reach as many communities as we can so we need YOUR help. Please follow us on Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram and TIKTOK and consider becoming a member

As we will soon be at the halfway point of the 2024 season, we are offering HALF-SEASON membership for £20 (half of the yearly cost), so please sign up if you can and pass on to anyone else you know who might be interested.
