Simm opts for Oldham

Roughyeds have won the race to secure the services of Super League winger Josh Simm on a deal until the end of the season.

The former Catalans and Castleford outside back has chosen Oldham despite interest elsewhere and is in contention to make his debut against Sheffield Eagles this Sunday.

“I had a bit of a look around,” said Josh. “When I spoke to Killer (Alan Kilshaw), I was really on board with signing.

I will bring a lot of energy – Killer has got a plan and I am really invested in that.

It is a great opportunity to play in the play-offs, as well and win some silverware at the end.

I will bring loads of effort and hopefully a bit of skill at the end of that and score a few tries.”

The 25-year-old has made 61 appearances, primarily in the top flight, and scored 24 tries in his career thus far.

A product of the Saints academy system, Simm made his Super League debut in 2019 before taking on a new challenge Down Under with Wynnum-Manly Seagulls in 2023.

On his return to the UK, he joined Castleford Tigers where he crossed for 13 tries in 28 appearances, before earning a move to Catalans Dragons ahead of the 2026 season.

Able to operate on the wing or at centre, Simm made four appearances for the Dragons and arrives at Oldham match-ready.

“I have found it tough the last year – I have been waiting for some playing opportunities that haven’t come,” Simm added.

They’d rather obviously play the French lads which I can get on board with, as they want to grow rugby league in France, but it was tough for me.

I want to come here, play, and show the fans what I’ve got… I’m ready and raring to go, I have played a few games in the French league and I have kept myself in tip-top condition – I’m feeling fitter than ever.”
