Sayner signs

Oldham have added another attacking weapon to their ranks with explosive full-back Connor Sayner signing a two-year deal.

The 20-year-old will make Boundary Park his home in 2027, having spent the past two years with Keighley Cougars.

Speaking to Roughyeds TV after putting pen to paper, Sayner expressed his delight with the move.

“As soon as I heard that Oldham were interested, I wanted to sign,” he explained.

It's a big club and Oldham have done well this year, so I am absolutely buzzing about the move.

I’m quite a running threat, quite agile, so I can move pretty quick and I like to think I bring plenty of energy as well.”

Having come through the Bradford Bulls system, Sayner earned a move to Keighley after impressing on trial during pre-season ahead of the 2025 campaign.

Alan Kilshaw previously handed the youngster his professional debut during their time together at Cougar Park, and the full-back is confident he can take his game to another level under the Roughyeds head coach once again.

“Ever since giving me my debut, it seems like he trusts me,” he said.

We get on quite well also, and it does play a big part in you getting along with your head coach, so it has brought out a lot of confidence in me”

As well as reuniting with Kilshaw, Sayner will link up with his best friend, Lucas Green, whose signing was announced last week.

During his time at Keighley, the dynamic full-back scored 14 tries in 38 appearances.

Head coach Alan Kilshaw said:

“I gave him his first-grade debut at Keighley, and since I came to Oldham I’ve been really keen to get him here.

He’s got a big future in the game and, incredibly, he doesn’t turn 21 until June.

I think he’s someone our supporters are going to be really excited about. He has speed and agility to burn, he’s tough, and he has a real hunger to improve.

I feel our environment, alongside the quality and experience we have within the squad, will really suit him.

I’m confident he can thrive here and light up the Championship next season.”
