Valu Tanē Bentley will remain an Oldham player in 2027 after agreeing a one-year contract extension.
The former ball-boy signed a short-term deal with the Roughyeds part-way through the year and made his debut in the away win over Rochdale.
The second-rower is excited to be part of the Oldham squad for at least another season as he looks ahead to an exciting future for the club.
“I’m really enjoying my time at Oldham and believe in the direction the club is heading,” he said.
Since joining, I’ve settled in really well and been made to feel welcome by everyone at the club.
I think we’ve got a really exciting group and the potential to achieve big things in 2027.
Personally, I want to keep improving, establish myself as a key player and help Oldham compete for silverware. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.”
Tanē is one of four current Roughyeds whose fathers have also represented Oldham, alongside Oliver Russell, Max Flanagan and Fin Irwin.
His dad, Valu, made 58 appearances for Oldham between 2010 and 2012, and Tanē is keen to beat that total.
“We’ve got a bit of a family rivalry going on now,” he explained.
We have a bet between us to see if I can beat his appearances for the club
It makes it even more special knowing my dad played for Oldham – so representing the club myself it makes it that bit more meaningful.”
Roughyeds boss Alan Kilshaw said:
“Tanē joined us towards the back end of last season and, although his opportunities were limited, he showed us a great deal of potential.
The challenge for him now is to have a big pre-season, continue his development and put himself firmly in contention to be selected in the 17 week in, week out.
He’s a hard worker who is really keen to learn and improve, and we feel this is a great environment for him to continue developing and fulfil his potential.”
