GIRLS rugby league in Oldham was given a major boost this week after Oldham Rugby League Community Trust gained vital funding from Sport England.
The £15,000 grant will increase the opportunities available to girls in Oldham to take part in the sport, as well as giving coaches funding for resources.
As part of the club’s plans to develop a grounding base for women’s and girls rugby league, the funding will see an increase in capacity of rugby league sessions delivered in schools and across community clubs.
Led by Head of Women and Girls’ Development Beth Sutcliffe, the club aims to establish girls’ teams from under-12s onwards, across the town, with a view to re-launching an open age women’s side, with training to start later in the year.
“This award is a great and exciting step forward in helping us to grow women and girls’ rugby in Oldham and will help bring to life our ambitions for the game,” said Beth.
The club is seeking to recruit coaches to deliver the sessions, a role which would be ideal for female coaches starting out their career.
Those successful will be given full training with a Level 2 coaching course on offer.
