FOUR Oldham players were named today in the top-12 list of Betfred League One try scorers in the regular season which ended last week with Oldham promoted as league champions.
The top-12 list, circulated today by the RFL, included our winger Cian Tyrer, top with 30; our on-loan full-back PLT (6th with 15), centre and club skipper Jordan Turner (7th with 14) and winger Mo Agoro (joint eighth with 13).
Defence may be spectacularly good, but the attack fared well too, given that we scored 885 points in 19 wins from 20 games and had four backs (two wingers) in the top 12 list of league try-scorers.
In the league goals list of 10, Jamie Ellis finished 5th with 45 and Kieran Dixon, he of the fascinating approach, was eighth with 39. We also had three in the points list – Tyrer third with 144, Dixon sixth 114 and Ellis eighth with 94.
Prop Adam Sidlow, currently on loan at Oldham from our dual-reg partners Salford, has played in 149 Super League games – 90 for Salford, 11 for Leigh, 6 for Toronto and 42 for Bradford Bulls. He played several games for us on temporary agreement at the end of the season just finished and we have heard nothing since.
Our head coach Sean Long, one of the best players ever to grace Super League in a glittering playing career, mainly with St Helens, was named today in the top-10 list of players and former players who have scored most points in Super League. Sean scored 2,200 Super League points to finish eight in a list topped by Oldham-born half-back Kevin Sinfield with 3,443 points.
