Back-rower Bayley Liu will remain a Roughyed after signing a contract extension with Oldham through to the end of the 2027 season.
The 30-year-old made an instant impact after scoring on his debut in March, going on to feature 20 times this year.
He has proven to be a potent threat in attack, averaging nearly a try every other match with nine to his name so far.
Now, the Scotland international is setting his sights on bringing home silverware with Oldham next season.
“If we can get the same chemistry as we have had and build off what has been built already, we will give ourselves a good chance to win the whole thing,” he said.
Oldham gave me a chance when everything happened at Halifax and I have enjoyed being able to play across a number of positions throughout the year.
With the boys and the staff, it has been probably one of the better groups I have been a part of.
I am disappointed with how it ended, we didn’t play our best against London but with what the team went through this year, we did pretty well and can only get better.”
Alan Kilshaw has been encouraged by Liu’s impact since joining the Roughyeds and is excited by what he can bring next season.
“I think we’ve only scratched the surface of what Bayley can produce in a Yeds jersey,” said the Oldham boss.
I’m really looking forward to seeing him grow after a consistent pre-season and a sustained run of games.
He had a very disrupted year last season, joining us late from Halifax, and because of the nature of our squad he was asked to play several different positions.
He never once moaned or complained, and he still produced several standout performances and showed what a threat he can be, particularly with the number of tries he scored.
We want to see him settle into an edge position next season and really take ownership of that role. He’s a great professional, cares about his craft and is a really good bloke to have around our camp.
Bayley is at his best when he’s aggressive and physical, and I’m very confident that with a full pre-season and consistency, we’ll see the very best of him next season.”
