A MASSIVE Oldham RLFC community event, details of which will be released at a Boundary Park media conference on June 12, is on the club’s radar and will be delivered soon.
The media conference itself will be a major event, attracting local dignitaries, Oldham RLFC chairman Bill Quinn and other club directors, Frank Rothwell, owner of Oldham Athletic, and lots of local companies and businesses including those who attended the Roughyeds’ latest Networking breakfast at Boundary Park last week;
It was there, with local man, leading RFL official and former top referee Robert Hicks as chief guest speaker, that the Roughyeds’ commercial manager Kieran O’Reilly broke the news of the big media announcement to come.
He said afterwards:
“The club is looking for philanthropic businesses which want to be part of creating history that will change the direction of 2,500 young people and students. Both for our magnificent fans AND EVERYONE ELSE IN THE TOWN this will be one of those not-to-be-missed occasions if you are an Oldhamer.
“Talking of our fans, how fantastic were they in North Wales at the last match ? Not only were they there in numbers, but they continued their great vocal support when things were going against us and they were, without doubt, a major player in helping us to win with one of the best comebacks ever. Believe me, the players can’t get enough of that terrific vocal support. From the club thanks again to you all.
“Back to the big day we will announce officially at the media conference and I can tell you it’s going to be an absolutely huge Oldham RLFC event. It will reflect the work of the club in our vibrant and diverse society and there will be business opportunities for companies involved in one of the biggest events ever held in Oldham.
“Anyone interested, or requiring further information about the media conference or the big event itself, is asked to contact me by email please.”

Our managing director Mike Ford said:
“Community and inclusivity is at the forefront of the club’s vision. We recognise our community responsibility which is twofold — to get on-field performance to the highest of standards and to recognise and appreciate how much rugby league engages with its local community.
“We want to put Oldham on the map and make this town a place everyone can be proud of. No matter who you are, where you come from, or what you believe in, this club has a place for you. We are all stronger together.”
Business man Frank Rothwell, who will be at the media conference, bought Oldham Athletic in 2022. At the age of 70 he became the oldest person to complete the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge, a solo sail across the Atlantic. At the age of 73 he did it again more recently, raising £1.1 million the first time and £253,000 the second time, when he also set a world record as the oldest person to row solo across any ocean.
Added Kieran:
“As the owner of Boundary Park, we will be delighted to welcome Frank out of courtesy and to thank him once more for allowing us to stage a huge event like this at Boundary Park.”
