Match News

Oldham look to start 2025 with a bang in front of a big Boundary Park crowd when Super League and World Club champions Wigan come to town on Sunday. (Kick-off 3pm)

The mouth-watering pre-season friendly sees two famous old rugby league clubs renew rivalries in the first outing for both sides ahead of the new campaign. It also offers fans a unique opportunity to meet star players from both sides and see the two clubs' glittering array of trophies in Bar 1895 before the game.

It's the first of three matches in a week for Sean Long's League 1 champions, with the Law Cup game against Rochdale rearranged for next Wednesday and our Betfred Challenge Cup tie against either Rochdale Mayfield or Telford Raiders next Sunday.

The clash sees head coach Long come up against his close friend Matt Peet, with the pair sitting down with George this week on an exclusive episode of The Boundary Line, free to subscribers to our YouTube channel Roughyeds TV.

It's the first meeting between the two sides for two years, with Oldham beating a largely reserve Warriors side a 2022 friendly, emerging 40-22 winners thanks to four tries from Joe Hartley.

Team News

A big crowd is expected with a host of star names set to play for both sides. Wigan may rotate some of their superstars, but they will all be in attendance and boss Peet has confirmed there will be some stellar players in his starting team, including George Hirst who signed for the Warriors from Oldham in the winter and former Roughyed Tyler Dupree.

"There will be a starting pack that is particularly experienced," he told Roughyeds TV.

Tyler Dupree, Kruise Leeming, Liam Byrne, Sam Walters, George and Harvie Hill will play.

The backs will be a little less experienced but still with some first-team games under their belts."

Oldham fans will get their first glimpse of a host of big-name signings in the new 2025 kit, with Josh Drinkwater, Iain Thornley, Matty Ashurst, Gil Dudson and Adam Milner all set to feature.

Captain Jordan Turner will lead a side that will also include fellow new recruits Lewis Baxter and Ben Foster.

Match Experience

A big crowd is expected but tickets, including a limited number of hospitality options, are still available if you are quick.

Pre and post-match entertainment in the Broadway Suite for Pie & Peas ticket holders will include exclusive pre-match insight from Roughyeds forward Elijah Taylor, a former New Zealand international, as well as post-match player presentations and interviews, plus bar access and tea and coffee.

Fans are urged to arrive early to take advantage of a rare opportunity to meet Wigan's star-studded squad in Bar 1895 before the game, with the Super League, World Club Challange and Challange Cup trophies also in attendance.

The afternoon will start with live music from resident band Boundary Parkas from 1:30pm. Then join host George Riley pre-match from 2pm to see the silverware and meet the likes of Jai Field, Junior Nsemba, Abbas Miski, Jake Wardle, Kaide Ellis and Patrick Mago along with Roughyeds stars Adam Lawton, Marcus Geener, McKenzie Yei and Brad Gallagher.
