Match Preview: Oldham vs Hunslet

The 1895 Cup returns this Sunday with Oldham taking on Hunslet in Round One at Bower Fold (3pm kick-off).

Roughyeds have already defeated Hunslet in the league campaign, winning 44-0 at the end of March.

Since that defeat, Hunslet have won their last two, while Oldham are on their best run of form since they lifted the League One trophy in 2024.

Roughyeds reached the semi-finals of the 1895 Cup last year while Hunslet were knocked out at the first hurdle, losing 28-26 to Widnes.

Team News

After a number of injuries suffered in the last week, Alan Kilshaw has made a number of changes to his squad.

Morgan Smith, Brad Day and Ben O'Keefe are all ruled out of this weekend's cup encounter through their respective injuries.

Smith suffered a hamstring injury during the Halifax win with the half-back due to have a scan to determine the seriousness.

Day suffered a calf injury while O'Keefe picked up a hamstring tear and both will be out for a number of weeks.

With a number of injuries to the Warrington squad, also, Max Wood has been recalled from his four-week loan, but Roughyeds welcome prop Luke Thomas from the Wolves this week.

Kieran Dixon and Ewan Moore both played for Salford, and helped them to their third win of the season, and have earned recalls to the Oldham squad.

Sam Littler has also been brought back into the Roughyeds fold, with him recalled from his loan deal with Keighley.

Alan Kilshaw spoke to Roughyeds TV, previewing Sunday's game and you can watch the interview here.

The Opposition

Hunslet have hit form since the 44-0 defeat to Oldham at Bower Fold last month.

They have won their last two games, defeating both Keighley and Newcastle. Hunslet are no pushovers, having averaged 24 points scored per game and they will be out to put right the heavy defeat they suffered.

Roughyeds have a great recent record over Hunslet, with the last five meetings all going the way of Oldham.

For the last away win, you have to go back to 2019 where the Parksiders won 36-28.
