Club News

Oldham are delighted to announce the launch of Roughyeds Driving Academy, the club’s own driving school aiming to offer fully-funded driving lessons to the Oldham community in conjunction with the Oldham RLFC Foundation.

The project will be led by Shane Limer of Limer Driving Academy, offering both the opportunity for instructors to take a fully-funded training course, and for under-privileged learner drivers to take fully-funded lessons.

Oldham’s commercial manager Kieran O’Reilly said the club is aiming to break the norm:

“If you want to be self-employed or employed we have options through Limer Driving Academy or Roughyeds Driving Academy. We are beginning a programme that every one of our instructors will give 2 hours a week completely free lessons to the Oldham community. It’s a life skill that everyone needs, opens up doors and creates freedom.”

Shane Limer added:

“I am an Oldham boy through and through and when the opportunity came up to work with Oldham Rugby and their community project for young people it gave me an idea that we could become the first Driving Academy in the United Kingdom to offer fully-funded training for people to become a driving instructor while giving them a car, insurance and fuel on an employed basis.

“We are also now working to bring you the Roughyeds Driving Academy to offer fully-funded driving lessons until you pass.”
