Purcell granted release

Oldham can confirm we have agreed the release of Jaron Purcell from the remainder of his contract, with the forward returning to Australia due to injury.

The 25-year-old made 16 appearances for the club and scored five tries, but has been sidelined since the end of May through injury.

With the forward set to miss the majority of the remainder of the season, the club has agreed to release him early, allowing him to return home to continue his recovery.

"We're really disappointed to lose a player of Jaron's quality," said Alan Kilshaw.

For me he has been one of the best forwards in the Championship this season.

Unfortunately his injury has meant he's decided to return to Australia and do his re-hab there and get ready for next season.

I feel he is a player that could step up and play Super League. I am sure he will go well in the Queensland Cup competition in Australia and maybe get an NRL opportunity down the track."
