Roughyeds have added more emerging talent with the signing of winger Harry Knight on a one-year deal.
The fan turned player joins having spent the past year playing reserve grade rugby at Wakefield Trinity.
Formerly part of the Oldham pathway system, Knight spoke of his pride at signing for the club in his first interview with Roughyeds TV.
“It’s unreal,” he said. “I have a lot of family from Oldham and they’re really proud of me signing.
I played a couple of matches in the pathway and I watched them from the stands when they were down at Stalybridge and Avro as well.”
Glossop-based Knight began his junior rugby at Saddleworth Rangers before latterly playing for Oldham St Annes.
He then earned a scholarship with Warrington Wolves aged 15, before signing a two-year deal with Wakefield Trinity.
The 18-year-old played the majority of Trinity’s reserve matches and helped the side to finish fourth, losing only three matches across the campaign.
Roughyeds boss Alan Kilshaw said:
“Harry has got plenty of pace, is a strong athlete and has the ability to cause problems for opposition defences.
He’s at a stage in his career where he needs to be playing regular first-team rugby, and we believe we can provide him with the right environment to continue his development.
It’s also important to us as a club that we continue to bring players with connections to the town back to represent Oldham RLFC.
We’ve assembled a really competitive squad for next season, and Harry will add further quality and competition to our outside backs.
I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing what he can achieve in an Oldham shirt.”
